Job summary

WSP is seeking an On-Call Solid Waste (landfill) and CCR CQA Engineering Technician to join the Civil, Ground Engineering & Materials team in Michigan. The role involves field monitoring, testing, and documentation of soil, aggregate, and geosynthetics for containment facilities across local and national projects.

The candidate will operate a nuclear gauge, perform density testing, and interpret construction documents to ensure compliance with plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• GCI-ICP certification for compacted soil liner and geosynthetics or ability to obtain it.
• MDOT Soils certification or ability to obtain it.
• MDOT Concrete or ACI Grade I certification or ability to obtain it.
• Subject to client-mandated drug/alcohol testing.
• Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy.
• Willingness to travel up to 90% and perform field documentation.

Responsibilities

• Field monitoring, testing, and sampling of soil and aggregate materials.
• Use of a nuclear gauge and drive cylinder for soil density testing.
• Geosynthetics monitoring and testing.
• General construction observation and documentation.
• Interpret construction documents to confirm projects meet plans.
• Interact with contractors and owners to resolve issues.
• Generate complete, accurate documentation using field notebooks and electronic systems.
• Assist with additional field activities including drilling, stormwater and groundwater sampling.
• Participate in daily safety meetings.
• Maintain safety and quality control standards.
• Work extended hours as project needs require.
