Job summary

WSP is hiring an On-Call Solid Waste (landfill) and CCR CQA Engineering Technician to support Michigan field projects. You will monitor, test, and document soil, geosynthetics, and containment system components for diverse facilities across energy, industrial, municipal, and private sectors.

The role requires travel up to 90% and the ability to work outdoors in variable conditions. A GED or higher, 5+ years' related experience, and required certifications are essential for eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• GCI-ICP certification for compacted soil liner and geosynthetics (or ability to obtain certification).
• MDOT Construction Materials Testing - Soils or ability to obtain certification.
• MDOT Construction Materials Testing - Concrete or ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician—Grade I (or the ability to obtain certification).
• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy.
• Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
• Travel, including travel for extended assignments is required.
• Daily report writing and construction documentation is required.
• Ability to communicate constructively with contractors, owners and Project Managers.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
• Ability to perform basic math and interpret data.
• Analytical mindset and safe work practices.
• Proven safety record and adherence to policies.
• Ability to work schedules beyond typical workweeks.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to lift up to 49 lbs solo and 50–100 lbs with assistance.
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions.
• Travel required: 90%.
• Valid U.S. driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Field monitoring, testing, and sampling of soil and aggregate materials.
• Use of a nuclear gauge and drive cylinder for soil density testing.
• Geosynthetics monitoring and testing.
• General construction observation and documentation.
• Interpreting construction documents to confirm projects meet approved plans.
• Interact with contractors/owners to resolve issues.
• Generate complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems and field notebooks.
• Assist with other field activities including drilling, stormwater and groundwater sampling.
• Participate in daily safety meetings.
• Operate company vehicles safely and legally.
• Maintain quality control standards for measurement and documentation.
• Perform additional responsibilities as needed by business.
