Job summary

The Department of Social Services (DSS) in New York City’s HRA/DHS complex seeks a Supervising Special Officer III to serve as Field Officer Captain. You will direct Supervising Special Officers I and II and oversee private contract guards across multiple locations to uphold security standards.

You must be a qualified Peace Officer with NYS certification, and possess experience in law enforcement or security, including supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Must be a Peace Officer per NYS law and meet required training and certification.
• One year of full-time experience in law enforcement, protection or security.
• Supervisory experience preferred for higher levels.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction to Supervising Special Officers I and II (Sergeants and Lieutenants) across multiple locations.
• Schedule, supervise and evaluate performance to ensure compliance with security policies and city/HRA rules.
• Conduct on-site inspections to monitor guard performance and location security.
• Prepare reports and make recommendations on issues raised by staff or incidents.
• Establish relationships with local police precincts for effective response.
• Contribute to training development for supervising officers and guards.
