Job summary

Zentro in Chicago is seeking a Field Ops Tech to join our construction and installation team. You will install, terminate, and troubleshoot cabling and networking gear across MDUs, and work outdoors at various building sites.

The role requires hands-on skills with CAT5/6 cabling, wireless radios, and racks, plus on-call responsibilities. Valid driver’s license and ability to lift 500 lbs are essential; fiber splicing is a plus.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and ability to transport equipment up to 500 lbs.
• At least one year of experience in a low voltage wiring position.
• Experience with CAT5/6 terminations, RJ-45 crimps, punch down tools, cable testers.
• Physically able to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work on tall buildings.
• Fiber splicing experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and troubleshoot CAT6 cables on patch panels and RJ-45 plugs.
• Route cabling through risers and create pathways from MDF to IDF and rooftops.
• Install roof mounts and wireless radios; calibrate radios with teammates.
• Install server racks and organize cabling in MDF/IDF closets.
• Be part of the on-call team one week per month with 24/7 availability.
• Troubleshoot network outages and service-impacting issues.
• Document completed work, materials used, and site conditions.
• Install network switches and routers.
