Job summary

AEP Texas is hiring a Meter Technician to install, test, and service self-contained electric meters energised up to 240 volts. You will read meters for billing, program devices, and handle disconnect/reconnect tasks, with focus on safety and accuracy in field and shop environments.

The role requires an associate degree or equivalent experience, a valid driver license, and relevant hands-on electrical maintenance skills. Training, overtime, and weekend work may be necessary as part of the job.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or equivalent four years of related experience.
• Hands-on experience testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment.
• Background in substation, metering, instrumentation, power systems, or electrical maintenance is preferred.
• Valid State Driver License and medical certification card if required by law.

Responsibilities

• Read meters as required for field orders and cycle billing.
• Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters.
• Test meters (single phase to polyphase) for proper operation and accuracy.
• Program meters and perform related credit/collection orders for non-payment.
• Investigate irregular usage and energy diversion; repair meters and enclosures.
• Order, receive, ship, and inventory meters and equipment.
• Prepare reports on power quality issues and use test equipment as needed.
• Work from ladders and elevated platforms; comply with safety policies.
