Job summary

City of Marietta is seeking a Meter Reader who will record electric and water meter readings on an assigned route, using a handheld device and manual readings as needed. The role requires attention to tampered meters and data accuracy, with daily entry of consumption figures.

Preferred candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of PC-based customer service experience. A valid Georgia Class C license and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Two years of recent customer service experience using a PC to handle customer accounts.
• Ability to accurately enter data into a handheld computer and read alphanumeric characters.

Responsibilities

• Record electric and water meter readings on assigned route using a handheld computer; manual readings when necessary.
• Complete forms on meters that are tampered with or need repair and submit to supervisor.
• Verify meter readings for high-usage accounts.
• Enter service codes to request special services on portable devices.
• Replace missing/cracked lids on water meters and submit replacement reports.
