Job summary

City of Mishawaka is seeking a Meter Reader for the Electric and Water Divisions. This full-time role reads meters at residences and businesses, records readings, and reports meter issues. You will work weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a $26.44 hourly wage.

Candidates must be able to walk long distances, lift up to 75 pounds, and pass physical and drug screening. Independent judgment is required to resolve meter number problems and data discrepancies.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must pass meter reading tests for standard meters.
• Must pass meter reading tests for demand meters.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Must adhere to Utilities drug and alcohol free policy.

Responsibilities

• Read meters for Water and Electric Divisions, including pit and curb meters and remotes.
• Record readings and inspect meters; report defective meters and broken seals.
• Use hand-held computer and other equipment to collect data and resolve issues.
• Work alone to read meters and perform related tasks in various weather conditions.
