City of Mishawaka is seeking a Meter Reader for the Electric and Water Divisions. This full-time role reads meters at residences and businesses, records readings, and reports meter issues. You will work weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a $26.44 hourly wage.
Candidates must be able to walk long distances, lift up to 75 pounds, and pass physical and drug screening. Independent judgment is required to resolve meter number problems and data discrepancies.

DEFINITION
Read all meters for Water and Electric Divisions, including all pit and curb installed meters, remotes and automatically read meters. Reports to and accepts assignments from Meter Reader Supervisor. Must use independent judgement when in the field to solve problems associated with changed meters, incorrect meter numbers, address corrections, incorrect account numbers and hand held computer malfunctions.

JOB LOCATION
Meter reading is performed at customer residences, businesses, curb meters and curb pits.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to walk long distances, bend, crouch, crawl, and lift a minimum of 75 pounds without assistance. Must be able to negotiate uneven terrain, climb stars both up and down, steep embankments, fences, gates, ladders, and kneel to open curb meters. Must wear approved safety shoes or boots.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to supervise the performance of meter reading functions in the following weather conditions: rain, snow, sleet, very cold, very hot, very humid, and windy days. Must be able to walk on wet grass, wet leaves, heavy dew, and frost covered ground. Must be able to work around all types of animals and insects, such as: dogs, cats, livestock, bees, wasps, hornets, ticks, and fleas. Must be able to work outside during high pollen and mold spore counts. Must be able to read meters blocked by obstacles such as: trees, bushes, furnaces, water heaters, false walls, closets, cabinets, on roofs of buildings, on poles and basements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Work alone to read electric and water meters, record readings, inspect meters, make calculations, report defective meters and broken seals, report meter malfunctions, and report illegal connections.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
During inclement weather, do general cleaning and housekeeping work at Mishawaka Utilities Business Office and Electric Division.
