Job summary

The City of Albuquerque is seeking a field mechanic to diagnose and perform complex maintenance, repair work on vehicles, machinery and heavy equipment in the field and at job-sites. You will conduct visual inspections, perform preventative maintenance and fueling of off-site equipment while adhering to safety standards.

This safety-sensitive role requires technical expertise, the ability to read schematics, and hands-on repair skills in varying environments.

Qualifications

• Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
• Two (2) years of technical training in automotive maintenance and mechanical repair; and
• Three (3) years experience in minor and major automotive maintenance and mechanical repair of various vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects and problems in vehicles and equipment.
• Perform complex maintenance, repair work and servicing in the field and on job-sites.
• Read blueprints and schematics to understand systems and repair requirements.
• Operate shop machinery and assist in leading field mechanics as needed.
• Perform tests, calibrations and preventive maintenance; potentially drive City vehicles as required.
