Job summary

City of Albuquerque seeks a skilled mechanic to perform complex maintenance and repair on engines and equipment, including diesel systems and electronic controls. You will diagnose, test, and replace parts, ensure safety, and maintain detailed records.

Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, operating shop machinery, and supporting emergency road calls. Valid NM driver license and CDL/AC recovery may be required; city benefits apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of automotive technical training.
• Three years of experience in automotive maintenance and repair of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
• ASE certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and difficult maintenance and repair work of mechanical engines and equipment including internal and/or spark combustion equipment and diesel systems.
• Inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects and problems in automobiles, buses, motorcycles, heavy equipment, fire apparatus and/or other mechanical equipment.
• Perform diagnostic activities for electronic fuel systems and computer-controlled systems on gasoline and diesel engines; ensure operational status of such equipment is within applicable standards.
• Replace component parts, perform engine tune-ups, rebuild and overhaul engines; perform safety inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematic wiring diagrams, hydrostatic systems and components; operate shop machinery (lathes, presses, grinders, blasters).
• May drive and deliver City automobiles, buses, fire trucks and heavy equipment from outside repair vendors; may perform emergency road calls of disabled vehicles.
