Job summary

AT&T in Candler, North Carolina is hiring a Machine Operator to install and maintain buried service lines, operate trenching equipment, and perform repairs and reconnections of fiber and copper services. You’ll coordinate with customers and utilities, work outdoors in varied weather, and meet safety standards while earning a competitive salary.

Qualifications

• Desire to work Monday through Friday with a shift length of 8hrs.
• Ability to work mandatory overtime and holidays as service conditions require.
• Willingness to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
• Able to utilize various types of machines and tools.
• Lift and move objects up to 120 pounds.
• Use computers to update work status and check new assignments.
• Light commercial driver’s license or equivalent and able to drive manual shift in some assignments.
• Attain and maintain a DOT medical card.
• Complete on-the-job and/or classroom training as required.
• Demonstrate competency in training requirements during probation.

Responsibilities

• Locate buried facilities near the route of service wire using appropriate equipment.
• Operate a company vehicle with trailer and machinery.
• Perform manual excavation using a shovel.
• Provide repairs to low voltage buried utilities or sprinkler systems.
• Carry out periodic maintenance and non-complex repairs to equipment.
• Read and interpret simple instructions.
• Follow safety practices and manufacturer specifications for equipment.
