Intertek is seeking a Field & Laboratory Technician I-B in Harlingen, TX to support field and laboratory testing on construction materials. What Are We Looking For?

Intertek is seeking a certified Field & Laboratory Technician I-B to support both field and laboratory testing operations for construction materials projects throughout the Rio Grande Valley. The ideal candidate will possess ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1 and ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certifications and have experience performing testing on aggregates, concrete, soils, and related construction materials. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy a combination of hands‑on field work and laboratory testing while contributing to transportation, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to perform testing in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and client specifications.

What You'll Do

As a Field & Laboratory Technician I-B, you will perform a combination of field and laboratory testing on construction materials including concrete, aggregates, and soils. Responsibilities include conducting concrete field testing such as slump, air content, temperature, and cylinder fabrication; performing aggregate testing in accordance with ACI, ASTM, and AASHTO standards; and supporting laboratory operations through testing procedures such as sieve analysis, moisture content determination, specific gravity testing, and other materials evaluations. You will be responsible for maintaining testing equipment and laboratory instruments, accurately documenting and reporting test results, and communicating findings to project managers, clients, and project stakeholders. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and technical excellence while supporting both field and laboratory operations to ensure materials meet project specifications and applicable industry standards.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year of construction materials testing experience or related laboratory experience.
• ACI Aggregate Testing Technician - Level 1 Certification (Required).
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I Certification (Required).
• Experience performing both field and laboratory testing of aggregates, concrete, soils, or related construction materials.
• Ability to accurately collect, record, and report test data.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel locally to project sites as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in both laboratory and outdoor construction environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• TxDOT Level IA Certification.
• TxDOT Level IB Certification.
• Asphalt testing certifications and experience.
• Additional ACI, NICET, or TxDOT certifications.
• Two or more years of field and laboratory construction materials testing experience.
