Job summary

Pape-Dawson is seeking an Archaeological Technician to support field and laboratory tasks for archaeological investigations and regulatory compliance. Under the supervision of a Project Archaeologist, you will assist with survey, excavation, documentation, and artifact processing while ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.

The role involves outdoor work across diverse terrains, collaboration with a project team, and potential travel for field assignments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
• Completion of a university-based archaeological field school.
• Minimum of 3–6 months of archaeological field and/or lab experience preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in diverse terrain and weather conditions on a regular basis.
• Physical ability to walk, bend, kneel, dig with hand tools, and stand for prolonged periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40–50 pounds, including field equipment, soil samples, or artifact containers.
• Willingness and ability to travel for field assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological field surveys, including shovel testing and site documentation, following established procedures and protocols.
• Collect and record GPS data for field observations and site locations.
• Clean, label, catalog, and curate artifacts in accordance with lab standards and guidelines.
• Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and organization of field and lab equipment.
• Support preparation of documentation, reports, and deliverables for cultural resource management compliance.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all project tasks.
