Pape-Dawson Engineers is seeking an Archaeological Technician to support field surveys, excavation, documentation, and artifact processing under a Project Archaeologist. The role covers both field and laboratory tasks and requires travel to project sites as needed.

Candidates should have a degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, field school completion, and ability to work outdoors in varied conditions. Opportunity for temporary, on-call assignments across multiple projects with emphasis on safety,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a university-based archaeological field school.
  • 3–6 months of archaeological field and/or lab experience preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in diverse terrain and weather.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40–50 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological field surveys, including shovel testing and site documentation, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Collect and record GPS data for field observations and site locations.
  • Clean, label, catalog, and curate artifacts in accordance with lab standards and guidelines.
  • Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and organization of field and lab equipment.
  • Support preparation of documentation, reports, and deliverables for cultural resource management compliance.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all project tasks.
