Site Manager / Field Installation & Commissioning Supervisor
Position Overview
A leading industrial engineering and technology organization is seeking a Site Manager / Field Installation & Commissioning Supervisor to serve as the primary on-site leader for complex capital equipment and industrial construction projects.
This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy hands‑on field leadership and thrive in project environments. The successful candidate will oversee equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and customer coordination activities while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality and schedule requirements.
The position requires extensive travel and offers the opportunity to lead high‑impact projects across a variety of industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Project Execution
- Serve as the primary on‑site representative during installation, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Lead field execution efforts involving mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- Coordinate daily project activities to ensure work progresses safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
- Establish work priorities and sequencing to optimize project performance.
- Monitor site progress and communicate project status, risks, and corrective actions to project stakeholders.
- Support project closeout activities, punch‑list management, turnover documentation, and final acceptance.
Installation & Construction Oversight
- Coordinate equipment installation and integration activities across multiple disciplines.
- Supervise contractors, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with project requirements.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and installation documentation.
- Maintain field documentation, redline drawings, and as-built records throughout project execution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, quality standards, and project procedures.
Commissioning & Startup
- Lead commissioning activities from pre-startup inspections through operational acceptance.
- Coordinate equipment testing, system verification, calibration, and functional checks.
- Support control system integration, automation testing, and operational readiness activities.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues during commissioning and startup.
- Validate equipment performance and support customer acceptance testing.
Customer & Team Support
- Act as the primary on‑site contact for customers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and technical support teams to resolve field issues.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to field personnel and technical staff.
- Foster strong customer relationships through proactive communication and professional service.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial installation, commissioning, startup, construction management, field service, or related project environments.
- Experience leading field teams, contractors, and multidisciplinary project activities.
- Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, instrumentation documentation, and technical specifications.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Strong communication and customer‑facing leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting and project documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial automation, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, or control systems.
- Familiarity with industrial communication networks and integrated equipment systems.
- Experience managing large‑scale industrial construction, installation, or commissioning projects.
- Exposure to AutoCAD or other engineering documentation software.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary commissioning and startup teams.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 80% travel required.
- Extended project assignments at customer sites may be necessary.
- Candidates may reside anywhere within the United States, provided they have convenient access to a major airport.
