Responsibilities

Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Engineer is responsible for the on-site execution, technical support, and commissioning of industrial equipment, automation, material handling, or combustion systems at customer facilities. The role includes installation verification, system configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting, performance testing, and final acceptance activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, quality requirements, schedules, and budgets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews project documentation, specifications, and site conditions to determine scope, timelines, resources, and procedures for on-site activities (installation completion verification, commissioning, startup, integration, and final acceptance).
  • Plans and executes on-site work activities in coordination with the Commissioning Coordinator or Field Service Manager, including preparation of test plans, tool/equipment requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Verifies electromechanical installations, configures field buses, PLC/HMI functions, and systems; supports performance demonstrations and contractual testing.
  • Analyzes customer site situations, gathers information on issues or opportunities, troubleshoots equipment (mechanical, electrical, controls), performs root cause analysis, and implements corrective actions or tuning.
  • Coordinates with project personnel, subcontractors, customers, and regulatory/governmental agencies to ensure activities progress on schedule and within budget.
  • Provides technical advice to site teams, resolves problems, and escalates complex issues to engineering or controls groups as needed.
  • Prepares and submits detailed site reports, service/inspection feedback, documentation, and updates to internal management, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with safety rules, quality standards, contractual obligations, and Fives procedures during all on-site interventions.
  • Travels to customer sites as required to perform commissioning, maintenance, retrofits, or emergency support.
  • Ability to provide on-site training for customer maintenance and operations teams, ensuring proper understanding of equipment operation, preventive maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques. QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with industrial equipment commissioning or troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of PLC Rockwell, HMI, Scada and Industrial PC
  • Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and process drawings
  • Strong hands-on skills in industrial automation or process equipment
  • Willingness to travel extensively (often 80% + travel) to customer sites
  • Robotics or automated production lines
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in customer environments.
  • Proficient in MS Project and MS Office Suite 2.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, including electrical schematics, engineering drawings, operation manuals, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, service documentation, and commissioning records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with customers, subcontractors, and internal engineering teams.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and troubleshooting procedures to customer technicians and operators during commissioning and training activities.

Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to analyze complex electromechanical and automation systems and diagnose technical issues in real time.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to apply logical and systematic problem-solving methods to identify root causes of equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make sound technical decisions under time pressure during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Ability to evaluate system performance data and determine necessary adjustments to achieve contractual performance requirements.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing site conditions and coordinate solutions with engineering teams and customer personnel.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly and propose practical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in industrial environments, including manufacturing plants, construction sites, and customer facilities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods of time during commissioning and installation activities.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access platforms, and work at elevated heights when inspecting or troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment or tools up to approximately 25-50 lbs (11-23 kg) as required.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and around operating industrial machinery.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach while performing inspections, adjustments, and installation checks.
  • Ability to travel frequently and work long hours on customer sites, sometimes under tight commissioning schedules.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, hard hat, eye protection, and hearing protection.
