Job summary

CDM Smith is hiring a field inspector to work on highway construction projects in multiple locations, with on-site responsibilities and supervision. You will inspect traffic control, environmental controls, and construction methods, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality control plans.

The role requires reading plans, estimating material quantities, and potentially sampling and testing in the field. Travel 20%–40% may be required; a valid driver's license is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Basic arithmetic skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to learn new computer, smartphone or related applications quickly.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of day-to-day contractor work; review daily reports; inspect contractor quality control and material testing procedures; verify conformance with the Quality Control Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for contract conformance; measure quantities of materials placed.
• May perform sampling and/or in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement.
