Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field inspector to join our Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection group. This on-site role requires working at project locations, gaining real-world experience, and directly impacting project success.

You will inspect traffic controls, read plans and drawings, and ensure contractor work aligns with contract provisions and specifications. Travel up to 40% may be required; a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency depends on duties and workload.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under direct supervision.
• Determine acceptability of day-to-day work by the contractor; review daily reports and QC procedures.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance; measure quantities and may perform sampling or in-place testing.
