Job summary

WSB and Associates is seeking an Inspector, Distribution Utilities to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance on construction sites. You will perform field inspections, document findings, and collaborate with project teams to support reliable utility work.

This role requires outdoors work in all weather, ability to travel within the territory daily, and proficiency with mobile reporting tools (iPad) and Excel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor preferred).
• 1-3 years experience with construction, underground utility installation, locating, surveying, mapping, and/or design.
• Strong understanding of OSHA, PHMSA, NESC, and state utility regulations preferred.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
• AWS CWI or CPWI+V, API 1169 certifications preferred.
• Proficiency with mobile reporting (iPad) and DataFi reporting tools; Microsoft Excel experience required.

Responsibilities

• Enforce safety, compliance, and quality standards across all project sites.
• Learn and understand the basic federal, local, and company compliance rules.
• Strong client relations skills; work with clients and other contractors in a respectful and knowledgeable way.
• Keep good organizational and time management skills and stay organized throughout the workday.
• Field observation including verifying and documenting federal, local and company compliance.
• Inspect gas pipeline installation, joint fusion, leak surveys, backfilling, compaction, trenching, and restoration work.
• Monitor field activities for OSHA, 811 laws, company procedures, state utility regulations, and client safety guidelines.
• Complete daily inspection reports using an iPad; take photos, fill forms, track time and expenses.
• Read and follow project plans; track materials and ensure maps and records are accurate.
• Assist onsite crews with initial job setup, coordinate with road crews, and address customer concerns.
• Document pipeline installations with sketches and mappings; create as-built documentation.
• Enter data and manage project information in client systems; communicate with engineers, designers, and field teams.
• Help schedule special services, emergency responses, and verifications as needed.
• Complete required training including Operator Qualification (OQ) modules in a timely manner.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions are identified and coordinate corrective steps.
