Description

Artheon is a trusted engineering and consulting firm offering services that rival large organizations while maintaining the personalized client relationships of a boutique firm. With expertise spanning civil/site engineering, environmental permitting, transportation infrastructure, construction management, and advanced surveying technologies, we are committed to delivering high-quality, timely solutions to local, state, and federal clients.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mid-Level Field Inspector to support municipal infrastructure and capital construction projects throughout New York City. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on field experience working on projects for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) or the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC), with a background in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline.

The Field Inspector will monitor construction activities, verify compliance with contract documents and project specifications, document field conditions, and coordinate with contractors, construction managers, engineers, and agency representatives to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable requirements.

This position is well suited for a construction professional who has developed a solid foundation in field inspection and is comfortable working on public‑sector infrastructure, utility, water and sewer, or other municipal construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily field inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, contract documents, and applicable NYC agency requirements.
  • Monitor contractor work on NYCDEP and/or NYCDDC projects, including water and sewer infrastructure, utility installations, roadway restoration, drainage systems, and other municipal capital improvements, as applicable.
  • Observe construction methods, materials, workmanship, and installation procedures to identify deficiencies and deviations from project requirements.
  • Maintain accurate daily inspection reports documenting contractor activities, labor and equipment, materials, site conditions, work progress, and issues requiring follow-up.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and other project documentation to support inspection activities.
  • Identify and report nonconforming work, potential quality concerns, and field discrepancies to the appropriate project management or engineering personnel.
  • Coordinate with contractors, construction managers, resident engineers, and NYC agency representatives to address field issues and facilitate project progress.
  • Monitor work for compliance with applicable safety requirements and established site procedures, reporting observed hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Verify quantities of installed materials and completed work, as required, and assist with progress tracking and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in field meetings, site walkthroughs, and project coordination discussions as needed.
  • Track outstanding deficiencies and corrective actions to help ensure timely resolution.
  • Assist with maintaining organized inspection records, photographs, test reports, and other project documentation.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant field experience may be considered.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of construction inspection, field engineering, construction management, or related experience.
  • Previous experience on NYCDEP and/or NYCDDC construction projects is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, technical specifications, construction materials, and field inspection procedures.
  • Experience preparing daily field reports, documenting construction progress, and tracking deficiencies.
  • Ability to identify construction issues and communicate findings clearly to contractors, project managers, and engineering staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple field activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to maintain accurate digital project records.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites throughout New York City and travel between project locations as needed.
