With expertise spanning civil/site engineering, environmental permitting, transportation infrastructure, construction management, and advanced surveying technologies, we are committed to delivering high-quality, timely solutions to local, state, and federal clients.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) to support the oversight and administration of municipal infrastructure and capital construction projects throughout New York City. The ideal candidate will have experience working on public-sector construction projects, preferably involving the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), the NYC Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC), or other NYC public agencies.

Working under the direction of the Resident Engineer and project management team, the Assistant Resident Engineer will help coordinate daily construction activities, monitor contractor performance, review project documentation, and verify compliance with contract documents, technical specifications, quality standards, and applicable safety requirements.

This role is well suited for a civil engineering or construction management professional seeking to build on their field and contract administration experience while taking on greater responsibility for construction oversight and project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with approved plans, contract documents, technical specifications, and applicable agency requirements.
  • Coordinate with field inspectors, office engineers, contractors, subcontractors, design consultants, and agency representatives to support project execution.

  • Assist with reviewing contractor payment applications, installed quantities, and supporting documentation.
  • Track deficiencies, nonconforming work, corrective actions, and outstanding construction issues through resolution.
  • Participate in site meetings, progress meetings, and coordination discussions; prepare meeting minutes and track action items as needed.
  • Support the preparation of monthly progress reports, project status updates, and other deliverables required by the client or public agency.
  • Assist with reviewing proposed field changes and coordinating technical questions with the Resident Engineer and design team.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with applicable site safety requirements and report observed hazards or unsafe conditions through established project procedures.

  • Assist with substantial completion inspections, punch lists, closeout documentation, and final project records.
  • Escalate technical issues, schedule concerns, quality deficiencies, and potential contract disputes to the Resident Engineer.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering or construction discipline preferred.
  • Approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience in construction management, construction inspection, field engineering, or public infrastructure project delivery.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification is required; Professional Engineer (NY/NJ) is preferred.
  • Experience working on civil infrastructure or municipal construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, technical specifications, construction methods, and contract administration procedures.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, inspectors, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, daily reporting, RFIs, submittals, progress tracking, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and construction project documentation systems.
