Job summary

The City of Cleveland Heights is seeking a Housing Inspector to join its housing and inspectional services team. The role involves performing routine interior and exterior inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with housing, building, and zoning codes.

The inspector will issue notices of violation, collect evidence, and maintain detailed records in support of enforcement actions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus technical training in construction methods and standards
• Two years of experience in construction or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to interpret codes and ordinances and apply them impartially

Responsibilities

• Perform routine interior and exterior inspections of residential and commercial properties to enforce housing, building, and zoning codes
• Conduct inspections related to property maintenance, Point of Sale, complaints, nuisance abatement, vacant properties, permits, and zoning violations
• Make independent decisions regarding issuance of violation notices and compliance with codes
• Issue warnings and citations and testify in court as necessary
• Maintain inspection records and prepare reports
