Job summary

The Village of Niles seeks a full-time Property Maintenance Inspector I in the Community Development Department. This position performs field inspections and enforces municipal, state, and national minimum housing codes and regulations, contacting owners and occupants, inspecting properties for structural safety, fire hazards, and general adequacy, serving notices, and explaining code requirements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and minimum five years of experience in building construction.
• IPM Certification is required; Structural Pest Control Technician Certification encouraged but not required.
• Knowledge of housing codes and inspection practices; ability to enforce regulations impartially.
• Proficient in computers, Microsoft Office, database software and web-based programs.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a Village vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Inspect existing structures and dwellings for conformance with housing code and inspections.
• Investigate complaints and findings; note violations and enforce code requirements.
• Issue notices, prepare inspection reports, and contact owners or contractors with results.
• Manage pest and rodent control programs; prepare and place bait stations.
• Testify at adjudication hearings; monitor license disputes and attend new code seminars.
