Job summary

The City of Baltimore is seeking a Housing Inspector to enforce Baltimore City Codes on vacant and occupied dwellings and commercial properties. This grant-funded role requires attention to detail and strong communication with property owners.

You will inspect interiors and exteriors, issue notices, maintain records, and testify when needed. Workweek is conventional with on-site field duties across City neighborhoods.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn Baltimore City building, housing, health and related codes.
• Ability to inspect property and determine code violations.
• Ability to deal effectively with property owners, tenants and the general public.
• Ability to utilize computer systems to prepare reports and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Inspect exterior and interior of vacant and occupied dwellings and adjacent property for code compliance.
• Identify violations and document conditions such as health, sanitation, and housing issues.
• Issue Violation Notices and Environmental Citations to property owners or tenants.
• Inform violators about code compliance and provide guidance for remediation.
• Investigate complaints of improper disposal of residential and non-residential trash.
• Conduct reinspections to ensure continued compliance with codes.
• Maintain inspection records and prepare reports for case presentation in court when needed.
