Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) seeks a Project Inspector to oversee highway construction and maintenance projects, ensuring quality per plans and specifications while serving the traveling public.

You will coordinate with internal and external staff, monitor safety and environmental controls, manage documentation, and track project schedules, with opportunities for growth within VDOT's market-based pay program.

Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with VDOT and contractor personnel and the general public.
Ability to maintain detailed records, prepare reports and maintain project files.
Ability to read, interpret and analyze roadway, structure and bridge plans, specifications and contract documents.
Knowledge of construction, civil engineering, project management or materials inspection.
Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

Communicate with project staff and public to notify traffic changes and project phases.
Ensure construction activities meet contract plans, safety, environmental, and compliance requirements.
Maintain project documentation, diaries, photos and as-built drawings.
Monitor project schedule and assist with resource and equipment planning.
