Job summary

The University of Arizona's Arizona Geological Survey seeks a Geophysicist (Research Scientist III) to lead field campaigns and integrate large MT, CSAMT, gravity, aeromagnetic, and seismic data into 2D/3D subsurface models.

You will process datasets, manage field operations, and participate in proposals and publishing scientific results, connecting energy resources with state geology expertise.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geology or a related field with at least 3 years relevant experience.
• Ability to drive according to Fleet Safety Policy.
• Experience with Python data analysis.
• Experience processing S-EGY, mSEED, or other time-series geophysical datasets.
• Experience post-processing magnetotelluric datasets.
• Experience interpreting MT datasets.

Responsibilities

• Design, permit, and manage field-based geophysical data collection campaigns in challenging Arizona terrain, with emphasis on MT data and/or CSAMT collection.
• Perform quality control and troubleshoot geophysical equipment.
• Conduct fieldwork individually and in teams to support Geophysics and Energy Geology Groups.
• Process geophysical datasets, with emphasis in MT, and generate 2D/3D inversion models.
• Create and manage large geologic/geophysical datasets across multiple projects in Arizona.
• Assist field deployments for passive seismic systems and maintain AZGS broadband seismic network.
• Contribute to writing proposals for external funding from federal and state agencies and private partners.
• May lead or co-lead development of proposals.
• Co-author geologic maps, models, technical reports, and peer-reviewed papers; present findings publicly.
