Job summary

Clark County in Washington is seeking a journey-level Equipment/Vehicle Technician to diagnose problems and perform mechanical repairs on road maintenance and fleet equipment. The position may require field work of three or more hours per shift and demands welding and fabrication experience.

You will inspect, diagnose, repair diesel truck engines and hydraulic systems, design and install hydraulic components, maintain shop records, and occasionally perform marine or specialized tasks.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years experience as a journey level equipment/vehicle Technician.
• Vocational training may substitute for up to one year.
• Five (5) years experience with diesel engines and hydraulically operated equipment is highly desirable.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• CDL Class A with air brake, hazmat and passenger endorsements within one month of hire.
• Welding and fabrication experience is highly desirable.
• Any combination of education, experience and training will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical equipment used in highway maintenance and automotive fleet.
• Grinds and seats valves; checks guides for wear and springs for tension and breakage.
• Replaces injectors and fuel pump and re-assembles to specifications.
• Checks transmissions and replaces bearings, gears and forks as needed.
• Operates shop equipment and performs electronic tune-ups and adjustments.
• Designs, modifies and installs hydraulic systems and accessories.
• Maintains shop records.
• May perform machinist, welder or bodywork tasks; road tests vehicles after repair.
• Supervises apprentice mechanics.
