Job summary

The City of Fort Myers seeks a skilled equipment operator to maintain and repair city streets, drainage, and related infrastructure. You will operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, graders, and vacuum/jetter trucks under supervision and perform daily inspections and basic maintenance.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of equipment operation experience, and the ability to work after hours or emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• One (1) year experience operating listed equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, vacuums/jetters, and related machinery.
• Must obtain Florida Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 12 months and maintain acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operates a range of heavy equipment (e.g., backhoe, dump truck, grader) for street maintenance and repair work.
• Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Constructs, repairs, and maintains city streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure.
• Assist with sewer, stormwater, and canal maintenance as needed.
• Work after hours or during emergencies as required.
• Ensure safety and proper operation of equipment; report defects to supervisor.
