Job summary

The City of Fort Myers is seeking a maintenance worker to operate a range of heavy equipment on streets, stormwater, and related municipal projects. The role requires adherence to safety practices, ability to perform under emergencies, and strong teamwork with department staff.

Responsibilities include operating vacuum/jetter trucks and other machinery, performing repairs on pavement, stormwater systems, and parks facilities, and following the City's safety and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 1 year of equipment operation experience (boom grad-all, patch truck, backhoe, sewer cleaning, vacuum/jetter, dump truck, etc.).
• Must pass DOT drug/alcohol testing.
• Must obtain Florida Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire.
• Must obtain Intermediate MOT certification within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Operates a vacuum/jetter truck, Valve Machine, Skidsteer, slope mower, flat deck/bush hog mower, excavator, and other essential equipment.
• Maintain and repair municipal storm water systems, irrigation, roadways, and related structures.
• Follow safety rules and wear PPE in traffic and adverse weather conditions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships; adapt to deadlines and emergencies.
• Operate equipment and follow oral and written directions.
• Identify and address safety issues and monitor mechanical systems.
