Job summary

City of Maypearl is seeking a dependable Streets Maintenance Worker to join our municipal crew. The role performs semi-skilled and skilled labor in construction, maintenance, repair and related service activities on streets, sidewalks, storm drains, signs and traffic markings.

Duties include patching pavement, pouring and finishing concrete, operating a wide range of construction equipment, installing barricades and directing traffic, and maintaining safety.

Qualifications

• Requires eighth grade education plus five years in a related field or high school equivalency.
• Two years of experience operating light, median and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Work with streets maintenance crew to patch pavement, seal cracks, remove graffiti, and maintain bikeways.
• Construct forms; pour and finish concrete.
• Operate construction equipment including trucks, rollers, graders, loaders, excavators, and other heavy tools.
• Clean debris from walkways, ditches, alleys and streets; respond to emergencies as required.
• Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains; identify equipment needs for each project.
• Transport debris to dumping sites and maintain traffic signs and guardrails.
• Utilize safety precautions; install street barricades and cones; direct traffic around work sites.
• Transport equipment/materials to job site.
• Build positive working relationships with coworkers, city employees and the public.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Job description

The purpose of this position to perform semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, repair and related service activities related to streets, sidewalk, storm drain, sign, traffic marking and to operate construction equipment as required.

Essential Job Functions:

• Work as part of a streets maintenance crew; patch pavement and seal cracks; remove graffiti; perform bikeway maintenance.
• Construct forms; pours and finishes concrete.
• Operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, motor graders, front loaders, 10-yard rotary mix truck, excavators, forklifts, aerial lift trucks, backhoe, asphalt paver, hydro/vacuum trucks, sweepers and power tools such as compressors, rotor hammers, jack hammers, paint sprayers, asphalt grinders, and concrete saws.
• Clean up debris from walkways, ditches, alleys and streets; perform work in emergency situations as required.
• Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains. Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.
• Pick up and transport debris and refuse to each dumping site as required.
• Maintain markings, traffic signs, and guardrails.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
• Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites.
• Transport equipment/materials to job site.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public, using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.
