Job summary
The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County is seeking an Environmental Specialist I to conduct inspections of septic systems and aerobic treatment units, issue permits and enforcement actions, and investigate sanitary nuisance complaints to protect public health.
The role involves field work, including soil profiling and site evaluations, with daily travel throughout Brevard County in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or physical/biological science
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Valid Driver's license and proficiency with computers and Microsoft programs
- Ability to travel up to 100+ miles daily throughout Brevard County
- Must obtain certification for Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems within 6 months of hire
Responsibilities
- Inspect septic systems and aerobic treatment units to protect public health
- Issue permits and enforcement actions as required
- Investigate sanitary nuisance complaints and conduct field work
- Perform soil profiling and site evaluations during field visits
- Travel throughout Brevard County in all weather conditions
