Job summary

Clean Harbors in Indianapolis, IN is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist to handle, segregate, pack and inspect chemical waste at customer sites and facilities. This is an entry-level position with growth into management roles and a chance to transfer across 200+ locations.

Responsibilities include lab packs, HHW collections, site safety, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA and DOT rules. A CDL with hazmat may be required within 6 months, and training is provided as you advance.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver's license required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment.
• Must perform physical functions per job requirements.
• Successful completion of background check, drug test, and physical as applicable.
• Compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT respiratory protection standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the top priority and follow safe work practices.
• Prepare packing lists, labels, manifests and land disposal restriction notifications.
• Inspect staging, storage areas and drums for leaks, spills and labeling compliance.
• Package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and compliance.
• Perform jobs at customer locations and with Clean Harbors facilities.
• Obtain final project approval in line with policies and regulations.
• Conduct projects per site-specific Federal, State, and local rules and safety plans.
• Understand customer disposal restrictions and packaging requirements.
• Sample and profile new waste streams or those needing testing.
• Ensure drum count and shipability per company policies.
• Operate company vehicles safely per DOT and regulatory requirements.
• Follow all operating guidelines and company EH&S policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
