Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a paid internship in its Major Projects Group, supporting in-person construction projects across multiple sites in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The program develops skills in construction project management, field engineering, and professional communication while applying engineering principles to real-time problems.

You will work with engineers and staff to learn drawing updates, project metrics and reporting, and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher.
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering.
• Must have reliable transportation to commute 100% in-person at the assigned project site (Sherco, Elk Creek Solar, or Lyon County Gas).
• Able to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hours/week) and part-time during school year (up to 20 hours/week) in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Participate in construction oversight and planning, field inspections, and safety observations.
• Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure project adherence to engineering codes and standards.
• Learn drawing updates and field engineering changes during active projects.
• Gain knowledge of managing project relationships.
• Assist with internal documentation, tracking of project metrics, and reporting.
• Assist with vendor outreach and coordination.
