Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking interns to support the Major Projects Group on active construction projects. You will gain hands-on experience in construction project management and field engineering, using prepared drawings and real-time problem solving.

Ideal candidates are ABET-accredited engineering students, available for a May 24, 2027 start, and able to work in-person at project sites with a hybrid schedule. This internship offers training, networking, and growth opportunities within the energy

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher.
• ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
• Must have reliable transportation to commute to work 100% in-person at the project sites (Sherco, Elk Creek Solar, Lyon County Gas).
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location per our hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Participate in construction oversight and planning, field inspections, and safety observations.
• Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure the project is built in accordance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
• Learn about drawing updates and field engineering changes that occur during an active project.
• Gain knowledge of how to manage vital professional project relationships.
• Assist with internal documentation, tracking of project metrics, and reporting.
• Assist with vendor outreach and coordination.
