Job summary

Schuff Steel Co. is seeking a Field Engineer to support project management, coordination, and field quality control for structural steel projects. You will handle submittals, RFIs, contract documents, and weekly reports while coordinating with subcontractors and the project team.

The role requires 3–5 years in related fields and a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Extensive travel (50%) to project sites is expected, with flexibility for long days and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years related experience in project management, engineering, systems design, or other related field in the structural steel industry.
• 5 years related experience as a Project Coordinator/Engineer or Asst. Proj. Mgr. along with 3 years detailing/drafting/computer modeling will be considered in lieu of project management experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering discipline is required.
• General knowledge of fabrication and erection standards and procedures.
• General knowledge of AISC standards and AWS codes.
• Proven ability to read and interpret shop and design blueprint drawings.
• Project Management & Scheduling skill set.

Responsibilities

• Support and co-lead with Construction and Project Managers for submittals, RFIs, and project controls docs.
• Review submittals and notify the team of potential cost/schedule impacts.
• Develop knowledge of contract documents.
• Prepare and distribute weekly reports.
• Assist with purchasing, expediting and material reception.
• Assist in bid package preparation between field teams and procurement.
• Help manage the project schedule and resolve conflicts.
• Coordinate field subcontractors and quality management.
• Maintain current project documents for construction team.
• Drive timely completion of closeout documents (turnover, O&M manuals, warranties, etc.).
• Schedule Project Team meetings and take minutes.
• Serve as link between detailers, PMs, production, customers, and design team.
