Job summary

Schuff Steel Co. is seeking a Field Engineer to support project management activities on structural steel projects. The role involves coordinating with construction teams, reviewing submittals, tracking schedules, and maintaining project documentation to ensure contract compliance.

The candidate will assist with procurement, bid packages, and field quality management, while communicating effectively with project teams and customers. Travel and long days may be required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years related experience in project management, engineering, systems design, or other related field in the structural steel industry.
• 5 years related experience as a Project Coordinator/Engineer or Asst. Proj. Mgr. with 3 years detailing/drafting may substitute for PM experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering discipline is required.

Responsibilities

• Support and co-leading with Construction and Project Mangers to include receiving, logging, reviewing, tracking, expediting, and distribution of submittals, RFI’s, and other project controls documentation.
• Receive and review submittals and notify the Project Team of potential cost and/or schedule impacts based on review comments.
• Develop a comprehensive working knowledge of the contract documents (plans, specifications, schedule, etc.).
• Collect data, assemble, and distribute various weekly reports as required.
• Assist the Project Manager, Superintendent and Procurement with purchasing, expediting and receiving material and equipment for the project.
• Assist in preparation, issuance, and receipt of bid packages between field teams and procurement for review and tabulation.
• Assist with managing the project schedule and identify conflicts; support resolution.
• Actively manage field coordination of subcontractors and quality management.
• Maintain all project documentation and ensure current documents are communicated to the Construction team.
• Drive project closeout documents, turnover packages, O&M manuals, warranties, training, punch lists.
