Job summary

GCS Recruitment is seeking a Field Engineer - OTDR Fiber Specialist in Milwaukee, WI. You will perform OTDR testing, diagnose fiber issues, and splice fibers in large data centre environments.

The role requires extensive travel to client sites, with responsibilities spanning troubleshooting, documentation, and on-site training. The ideal candidate has proven OTDR experience, ISP/OSP knowledge, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Proven OTDR testing experience with fiber splicing.
• Familiarity with ISP/OSP network infrastructures and documentation.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio).
• Ability to travel extensively to customer sites on short notice.
• Excellent problem-solving and client-facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct OTDR testing to diagnose defects, breaks, and bends in fiber cables.
• Identify fiber count and location using OTDR equipment (EXFO/JDSU).
• Repair and troubleshoot fiber optic links at customer sites.
• Operate OTDR machines and perform fiber splicing and testing.
• Document network tests and generate detailed reports for clients.
• Provide on-site installation assistance and training to customers.
• Adhere to industry standards and best practices for fiber testing.
