GCS Recruitment is seeking a Field Engineer - OTDR Fiber Specialist in Milwaukee, WI. This field-based role focuses on OTDR testing, troubleshooting, and fiber optic splicing in large-scale data center environments with extensive travel to client sites.

You will diagnose faults, operate OTDR equipment such as EXFO and JDSU, document results, and support both inside and outside plant networks. The position demands independent work, strong communication, and a customer‑facing approach.

Qualifications

• Proven OTDR testing and fiber splicing experience.
• Familiarity with ISP/OSP network infrastructure and documentation.
• Willingness to travel 80-90% and manage multi-week assignments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct OTDR testing to diagnose defects and bends in fiber optic cables.
• Identify fiber count, location, and damage using OTDR equipment.
• Perform troubleshooting and repair of fiber optic links at customer sites.
• Operate OTDR machines (EXFO/JDSU) and configure settings.
• Execute fiber splicing and testing to ensure network integrity.
• Work with ISP (Inside Plant) and OSP (Outside Plant) networks.
• Interpret OTDR traces and time-based calculations for troubleshooting.
• Create detailed test reports and maintain documentation.
• Provide on-site training and customer support.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards.
