Job summary

Persons Services Corporation is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to join our Infrastructure Group in Houston. This entry‑level opportunity is ideal for a recent graduate or early‑career professional to launch a career in heavy civil construction, gaining hands‑on experience on underground utility and wastewater projects.

You will work alongside seasoned project managers and superintendents, supporting field engineering tasks, layout, quantity verification, RFIs, and progress documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 0-2 years of construction experience, internships or co-ops considered a strong plus.
  • Genuine interest in heavy civil, underground utilities, or wastewater treatment construction.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Procore, AutoCAD, or P6 is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day field engineering tasks across underground utility and heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with layout, grade checks, and quantity verification in coordination with survey crews.
  • Track and maintain accurate quantity take-offs, material logs, and as-built documentation.
  • Prepare and process RFIs, submittals, and change order documentation.
  • Maintain detailed daily field reports, photo logs, and progress documentation.
  • Assist in reviewing plans, specifications, and shop drawings for accuracy and constructability.
  • Support Quality Control efforts, including inspections, testing coordination, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to track deliveries and field progress.
  • Assist with scheduling updates and support development of CPM schedules.
  • Champion our safety culture by participating in JSAs, toolbox talks, and daily safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • 0-2 years of experience in construction, internships, or co-ops considered a strong plus
  • Genuine interest in heavy civil, underground utilities, or wastewater treatment construction
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Procore, AutoCAD, or P6 is a plus
  • Eager to learn, coachable, and comfortable working both in the field and in an office setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work on active construction sites in varying weather conditions
