Job summary

St. Mary’s County Government seeks a Maryland certified EMT to respond to emergency calls, assess and treat patients, and transport when needed. The role involves working in varying environments, exposure to hazards, and coordination with allies across EMS and hospital networks.

Responsibilities include rigorous documentation, equipment maintenance, training EMT students, and adhering to county SOPs while maintaining patient confidentiality and safety at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred one-year documented EMT experience.
  • Current Maryland EMT certification; CPR and EVOC in progress or obtained.
  • Nationally Registered EMT certification acceptable; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Treat ill or injured individuals per BLS guidelines at incident site and en route.
  • Stabilize patients and assist extrication; provide emergency care and reports.
  • Deliver quality patient care and complete detailed documentation.
  • Assist ALS providers; maintain equipment and cleanliness of apparatus.
  • Inspect medical supplies; ensure stocked and ready operations.
  • Submit required documentation to Fire/EMS, MIEMSS; maintain PHI confidentiality.
  • Participate in post-incident analysis and continuing education.
  • Safely operate emergency vehicles and adhere to SOPs; support other agencies.
  • Precept EMT students and newly hired EMTs; perform other duties as assigned.
