Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Disaster Engineering Specialist to support FEMA Public Assistance programs. The role involves conducting site inspections, documenting damages, and developing scopes of work and cost estimates in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

The position requires strong design application knowledge, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to travel domestically as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
• 5 years of in-field experience or 2 years of in-field experience with professional registration.
• Domestic travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts site inspections to validate and document infrastructure damage, including photos, sketches, and detailed descriptions.
• Develops scopes of work and cost estimates, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Reviews engineering reports, designs, and as-built plans to support eligibility determinations.
• Makes recommendations on claim eligibility and hazard mitigation proposals; coordinates with applicants and communicates final decisions.
• Participates in status update meetings with FEMA and identifies the need for technical specialists.
• May coordinate and complete basic to moderately complex site inspections for FEMA Public Assistance grants.
