Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Disaster Engineering Specialist to perform site inspections, document infrastructure damage, and develop scopes of work and cost estimates for FEMA recovery projects. The role requires U.S.

citizenship, FEMA badge eligibility, and travel across locations. Responsibilities include reviewing engineering reports, evaluating hazard mitigation proposals, and communicating findings to applicants and FEMA.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain FEMA Badge (Public Trust).
• Knowledge of design applications and technical knowledge.
• Understanding of construction materials technologies and methodologies; strong organization to balance priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to change quickly and remain flexible.

Responsibilities

• Conducts site inspections to validate and record infrastructure damage, takes photos, sketches, and writes damage descriptions.
• Reviews and analyzes engineering reports, designs, and as-built plans.
• Makes recommendations on claim eligibility and evaluates hazard mitigation proposals with applicants.
• Provides analyses, updates and participates in status meetings with FEMA; identifies need for technical specialists.
• May coordinate basic to moderately complex site inspections to support FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery.
