Job summary

CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a research engineer to support the GML’s TTEA division and four major efforts: HORUS, TraceAIR, NGAS-LA, and shipborne pCO₂ measurements. The role will shape program trajectories as projects move from concept to deployment, with emphasis on instrument development and field support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (environmental, electrical, electronics, or related).
  • Ability to conduct in-person laboratory work in a U.S. government facility.
  • Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork ~10% per year.
  • Experience with Python.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, document, maintain and repair atmospheric sensors and sampling equipment for ground, aircraft, ship, balloon and/or autonomous systems (60%).
  • Provide input to collaborating scientists and partner organizations on engineering solutions for measurement needs (15%).
  • Deploy measurement systems to the field and provide ongoing technical support for field projects (15%).
  • Guide transition of new atmospheric observing technologies toward operational research applications (5%).
  • Perform other relevant duties as necessary (5%).
