Job summary

CU Boulder’s CIRES invites applications for a Research Engineer to support NOAA GML’s TTEA division, working on HORUS, MACH aboard aircraft, NGAS-LA and shipborne pCO measurements. The role covers calibration, deployment and field support across ground, air, and sea platforms.

The position is based in Boulder, CO, with in-person work and potential hybrid arrangements after a training period. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s in environmental or electrical engineering, Python, and strong

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering or another engineering degree.
  • Ability to conduct in-person laboratory work in a U.S. government facility.
  • Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork ~10% per year.
  • Experience with Python.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, document, maintain and repair atmospheric sensors, trace gas measurement systems, or sampling equipment for various platforms (60%).
  • Provide input to collaborating scientists and partner organizations on engineering solutions for measurement needs (15%).
  • Deploy measurement systems to the field and provide ongoing technical support for field projects (15%).
  • Guide transition of new atmospheric observing technologies toward operational research applications (5%).
  • Perform other relevant duties as necessary (5%).
