Job summary

CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a research engineer to support NOAA GML's TTEA division across HORUS, MACH, NGAS-LA and shipboard pCO2 instruments. You will calibrate sensors, deploy systems, and provide field support.

The role requires a BS in engineering, in-person work at the David Skaggs Research Center in Boulder, occasional travel, and Python experience. The position offers relocation funds, hybrid work after training, and a mentorship program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (env, electrical, electronics, or related).
  • Ability to pass federal background check to work in a US government facility.
  • Willingness to travel ~10% for field work.
  • Experience with Python programming.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, document, maintain and repair atmospheric sensors and sampling equipment for ground, aircraft, ship, balloon, or autonomous systems.
  • Provide input to collaborating scientists on engineering solutions for measurement needs.
  • Deploy measurement systems to the field and provide ongoing technical support for field projects.
  • Guide transition of new atmospheric observing technologies toward operational research applications.
  • Perform other relevant duties as necessary.
