Job summary

City of Amarillo seeks a Field Customer Service position to assist residents in the field, respond to inquiries, and resolve issues with utility meters. The role involves working outdoors in all weather, coordinating work orders, and promoting automated metering benefits.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma, Texas Class C license, and strong communication skills. Prior fieldwork in utilities is preferred, with ability to lift and handle tools safely.

• Assist customers in the field by responding to inquiries and concerns
• Investigate and resolve issues related to high utility bills
• Monitor and address scheduled and unscheduled work orders
• Handle collection-related orders effectively
• Promote and explain the benefits of automated metering infrastructure to customers
• Maintain detailed knowledge of the city's metered routes and locations
• Work in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
• Report directly to the Customer Service Field Supervisor

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
• One (1) year of experience in water works or meter services preferred
• Proficiency in the layout and mapping of the City of Amarillo's metered routes
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle inquiries and complaints professionally
• Experience in fieldwork, particularly in customer service or utility setting
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with automated metering systems
• Familiarity with the City of Amarillo's utility infrastructure
• Ability to operate a vehicle safely and efficiently
• Ability to use and maintain hand tools, shovels, valve wrenches, metal detectors, meters, and fittings
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and during inclement weather
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting/exerting force and performing repetitive motions
