SALARY $18.79 - $23.49

JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, coordinates crew activities on a daily basis to complete assigned work orders and acts as lead in the repair, replacement, or adjustment of meters. Provides maintenance services on automated meter infrastructure to include the diagnosis of issues, repair, or replacement of automated meter infrastructure (AMI) infrastructure. Will perform additional duties under direct supervision which include performing repairs and preventative of all water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, water mains, water services, water taps, fire hydrants, valves, sewer mains, sewer services, manholes, and cleanouts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead crew in repairing, replacing, or adjusting small to medium size meters (2\" and greater in size).
  • Perform meter accuracy testing, pressure/flow testing, installation, or replacement of meter vaults.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance services and aged meter replacements as scheduled.
  • Investigate service connection problems and resolves customer complaints.
  • Spot checks the work and job site locations of the people they are leading.
  • Supervise multiple subordinates including the hiring, discipline, evaluating and training of subordinates.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assisting the Meter Services Crew Chief in tasks related to large meters.
  • Perform chlorine residual testing, re-size service connections and assist Meter Reading in facilitating safe access to metering sites.
  • Assist other meter service workers with more difficult tasks, as needed or directed.
  • Performs emergency repairs and preventative services on all water and wastewater infrastructure including but is not limited to: Water services AMI infrastructure Fire hydrants Valves Manholes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles. Knowledge of Water Utilities operations; policies, procedures, ordinances. Knowledge of specifications for all size meters and metering sites, metering functions and related terminology. Skill in the maintenance and repair of water meters. Skill in communicating policies and procedures. Skill in quickly ascertaining problems with malfunctioning meters and determining quick resolutions. Ability to understand and visualize combined metering scenarios. Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces under extreme weather conditions. Ability to respond on a scheduled on-call basis and to work extended periods of time under imposed emergency assignments. Ability to operate a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to PC, calculator, two-way radio, jack hammer, port-a-power wench, and acetylene torch. Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, data entry, dragging, driving, holding, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, seeing, sitting, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body. Ability to prepare for and cope with both passive and active environmental hazards. Qualifying Education and Experience: Possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months. Possession of a Class II Wastewater Collection license or ability to obtain within 18 months. Possession of a Class C Water Distribution Operator’s License. High School diploma/GED. Two years relevant vocational/technical school in plumbing or related field. OR Two years’ experience in water utility or meter operations. OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
