Job Summary

Under general supervision, completes daily work orders related to meter services including installation, termination, lockouts, repairs and resolving problems in the field.

Essential Job Functions

• Turn on water service for new customers.
• Turn off service for closed or delinquent accounts including but not limited to: Lock off for non-payment.
• Lock off for “broken promise” accounts.
• Reconnecting for resumed payment.
• New accounts.
• Closing accounts.
• Meter readings for final billings in assigned territory.
• Respond to emergency calls for assistance.
• Investigate customer complaints including but not limited to: No water, no reason investigations.
• Low pressure tests based on customer complaints.
• 2nd leak follow up 30 days after first maintenance crew’s work.
• Investigations within right of way for customers.
• Replace defective meters and control valves, leaking gaskets, damaged boxes, and lids at the metering site.
• Perform scheduled change-outs of aged or malfunctioning meters, 3/4\" and 1.5\" in size.
• Inspect AMI and meter connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections.

Other Job Functions

• Assist on large meter crew performing maintenance on meters sized 2.5\" to 10\".
• Assist Meter Reading in facilitating safe access to metering sites by repairing reported defects and clearing impediments at the metering site.
• Performs repairs and preventative services on all water and wastewater infrastructure including but not limited to: Water services, AMI Infrastructure, Water services, Fire Hydrants, Valves, Manholes.

• Skill with organization and attention to detail.
• Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
• Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
• Knowledge of Water Utilities operations; policies, procedures, ordinances.
• Knowledge of specifications for all size meters and metering sites, metering functions and related terminology.
• Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
• Ability to work within a set schedule.
• Ability to work independently under general instructions.
• Ability to work in confined spaces under extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment used in the trade.
• Ability to understand mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, and decimals.

• Ability to respond on a scheduled on-call basis and to work extended periods of time under imposed emergency assignments.

• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization’s policies.

Qualifying Education and Experience

• Possession of Class C driver’s license.
• Possession of a Class D Water Distribution license.
