Job summary

Egis is seeking Construction Inspectors to join our growing teams in CT, RI, MA. You will read and interpret contract plans, monitor daily contractor activities, and ensure compliance with plans and specifications on highway projects.

Applicants should have a civil engineering or construction management background, with 0–2 years of inspection experience. A vehicle and valid license are required; OT may apply, and sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or NICET required.
• 0–2 years of Construction Inspection experience; DOT project experience preferred.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and swing shifts.
• Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license with clean driving record; mileage reimbursement on-site.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook; certifications from NETTCP, ACI, ATSSA, AWS, NACE are a plus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret complex contract plans, specifications, special provisions, permits, shop drawings and working drawings.
• Monitor and report daily contractor activities; ensure compliance with plans and contract documents.
• Ensure highway work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements.
• Ensure work interfering with traffic is performed only during Allowable Periods in contract.
• Check lines, grades, dimensions and elevations using standard field measuring equipment.
• Measure and calculate quantities of contract items for payments to the contractor.
• Track labor, material and equipment used on each operation covered.
• Identify plan discrepancies or other potential issues to Chief Inspector/Resident Engineer and suggest solutions.
• Identify issues not covered in contract documents and determine handling.
