Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an experienced Inspector to conduct on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects, verifying compliance with design specs, codes, and safety rules. You will document results and coordinate with engineers and clients to drive quality and safety.

You will review submittals, monitor progress, and prepare daily reports while ensuring environmental, safety and permitting compliance. Domestic and overseas travel may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant construction experience.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to pass federal background checks.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specs, and contracts.
• Experience with large commercial or federal projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction projects to verify compliance with design specs and safety requirements.
• Documents inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions with technical recommendations.
• Reviews submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications with engineers and project teams.
• Monitors progress, prepares daily reports, deficiency notices, and project status updates.
• Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements.
• Participates in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, and project closeout activities.
• Mentors junior staff and coordinates with contractors, engineers, and clients.
